Welcome! In this article we'll show you how to adjust the settings in your Canvas gradebook. Note that this article is about the gradebook in Canvas, not the SpeedGrader or the gradebook on the BYUI website. There are many ways you can adjust the settings in your gradebook. Answer the question below to be given the exact information you require. Let's get started!

Which setting would you like to adjust in your gradebook?

After opening the gradebook in your course, click on the cog icon in the top right corner of the page.

Set a late submission policy

Under the "Late Policies" tab in the corresponding pop up window, set up your late policy. You can automatically assign a grade percentage deduction for a missing submission. Click the first checkbox [1] and enter the percentage of points you would like deducted from the missing submission.

You can also automatically deduct points for late submissions. Click the second checkbox [2] and fill in the required percentages.

Don't forget to click "Update" [3] when you are finished.

Adjust grade posting policy

In the corresponding pop up window, open the "Grade Posting Policy" tab [1].

You can choose to automatically post the grades you give your students [2]. Automatically posting your grades will make them immediately visible to your students as soon as you've entered them.

OR you can choose to manually post your grades [3]. If you decide to use this setting, the grades will only become visible to your students when you post them. Students will not receive notifications for any grading you complete until after you post their grades.

Don't forget to click "Update" [4] when you are finished.
